Biography

Die in New York geborene Sopranistin Claudia Visca absolvierte ihre Gesangsausbildung am „The Curtis Institute of Music“ in Philadelphia. Ein Fulbright Stipendium brachte sie an die Hochschule für Musik Wien, wo sie bei KS. Hilde Rössel-Majdan und Anton Dermota studierte.

Claudia Visca hat mit zahlreichen namhaften Dirigenten zusammengearbeitet, darunter Leonard Bernstein, Eugene Ormandy, Istvan Kertesz, Gustav Kuhn, Miguel Goméz-Martinèz, Helmut Müller-Brühl, Hanns-Martin Schneidt, Sandor Vegh, Peter Gülke und Raphael Frühbeck de Burgos.

Sie arbeitete u.a. mit folgenden Künstlern und Regisseuren zusammen: Placido Domingo, Agnes Baltsa, José Carreras, Edith Mathis, Günther von Kannen, Hartmut Welker, Thomas Tipton, Josef Protschka, Yo-Yo Ma, Jean-Pierre Rampal, Bruno Canino, Rudolf Serkin, Siegfried Palm, Richard Stolzmann, Mitglieder des Guarneri-Quartetts, Marcel Prawy, Pina Bausch, John Dew, Pet Halmen, Christine Mielitz, Wolfgang Weber, Sammy Molcho.

In ihrer langen Bühnenkarriere hat sie an mehr als 25 Opernhäusern in Europa gastiert, u.a. in Wien, Berlin, Köln, München, Amsterdam, Genf und Zürich. Sie verkörperte 75 Opern-, Operetten- und Musical-Rollen sowie im Konzert.

Von 1999-2003 war sie Professorin für Gesang an der Hochschule für Musik Köln. Im Jahr 2003 wurde sie an die Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien berufen, an der sie seitdem eine Klasse für Sologesang leitet.

Claudia Visca gibt weltweit Meisterkurse für Gesang und Interpretation u.a. in Amerika, Australien, Deutschland, Belgien, Bulgarien, Deutschland, Kroatian, England, Griechenland, Holland, Japan, Österreich, Italien, Serbien, Tschechien und Ungarn. Sie ist zudem Jurorin bei internationalen Wettbewerben.

Studenten von Prof. Claudia Visca sind Preisträger vieler Wettbewerbe und an namhaften Opernhäusern engagiert, u.a. in Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, „La Scala“, The Metropolitan Opera, Covert Garden, Glynbourne, Hamburg, Madrid, Moscow, Prague, Rom, Theater an der Wien, Der Volksoper Wien, Der Wiener Staatsoper und Warsaw.



Born in New York, soprano Claudia Visca graduated from the acclaimed Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia where she studied with Anna Moffo's teacher, Eufemia Giannini.  A Fulbright Scholarship took her to the Hochschule fur Musik Wien where she finished her education under the direction of Ks. Hilde Rossel-Majdan and Anton Dermota.  

During her long stage career, Claudia Visca guested in more than 25 opera houses in Europe, among them those in Amsterdam, Berlin, Cologne, Geneva, Munich, Vienna, and Zürich. In over 2,000 performances, she appeared in more than 75 roles in operas, operettas, and musicals as well as in concerts. Claudia Visca has worked with renowned conductors, stage directors, and artists, including Eugene Ormandy, Gustav Kuhn, Istvan Kertesz, Miguel Gomez-Matinez, Sandor Vegh, Raphael Frühbeck de Burgos, Pina Bausch, Christine Mielitz, Marcel Prawy, Bruno Canino, Rudolf Serkin, members of the Guarneri Quartet, Edith Mathis, Agnes Baltsa and Placido Domingo. A highlight of Claudia Visca's career was to sing Maria in West Side Story conducted by the composer, Leonard Bernstein.

From 1999 to 2003, Claudia Visca was voice professor at the Hochschule fur Musik Cologne.  In 2003, she became a professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. Professor Visca has given master classes in vocal technique and interpretation in Australia, Austria, Bulgaria, China, Croatia, Czech Republic, England, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Norway, Poland, Serbia, and the United States. Her students are winners of international competitions and are engaged in major opera houses all over the world, including those in Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Bologna, Geneva, Hamburg, London, Madrid, Milan, Moscow, Munich, New York, Rome, Paris, Prague, Vienna, and Warsaw.
